Assets…Growing Our Capital

Asset
as·set /ˈaset/
noun
  1. a useful or valuable thing, person, or quality.
  2. property owned by a person or company, regarded as having value and available to meet debts, commitments, or legacies.

Physical assets can be just as important as cold, hard cash when it comes to obtaining financing for Prosper in Peace (PiP). When I go to the bank for funding, or find interested investors, they will want to see that I have some "skin in the game". That includes any money I've already spent on needed items, and any physical capital and inventory the business will need to function that it already owns.

This week's focus was on our assets and starting our inventory list.

As mentioned previously I went to Alabama this week to see my sister and help her prepare to sell her home. She has a large 5500 sq ft house that she lives in alone and has decided it is time to downsize. As you can imagine, it takes quite a bit of furniture to fill a house that size, and a married couple with no kids doesn't put too much wear and tear on nice furniture. Eileen asked if we could use it at PiP ~ now we have much of the furniture we will need to get started in the main living areas and activity rooms!

We have 2 large dining tables with chairs, multiple bookcases and entertainment centers, couches and chairs, gym equipment, and even a beautiful leather-pocket pool table!

I have yet to value it all out, but it will definitely contribute positively to our bottom line when it comes to show financial input, and will provide a positive, comfortable environment for our residents and staff ~ Double bonus! Our next task will be getting it to Arizona, but I am sure we will make that a fun sister adventure :)

In addition to all of our work, we also took some time to hang out and did some partner painting where you pass your canvasses back and forth while creating a work of love for each other. Here is a glimpse of our fun and the masterpieces we created.

I connected with Prestamos Community Development Financial Institutions this week. They are a local organization that provides support for entrepreneurs that do not have access to standard funding options. They provide business education, 1:1 mentoring support, and even loans for businesses they feel will be successful.

This is especially important during the start-up phase as most financial institutions and investors are leery of start-ups until the business model is proven to maintain a profit.

I have shared my updated business plan with them and they will help me with the final few sections that I need to update. I will also attend their initial start-up business workshop series and will secure a financial award for attending. This is a wonderful opportunity for which I am very grateful.

Let's see what productive fun I can have this week…
