A Mindful Memory Care Village

nestled in the peaceful Sonoran Desert

About Prosper in Peace

Prosper in Peace (PiP) is an innovative, holistic approach to dementia care with a focus on the resident living a productive and enjoyable life to the best of their abilities - mindful memory care.

The PiP campus will accommodate 20 residents: 10 lower-acuity assisted living duplex apartments and 10 private bedrooms in a centrally located home for those who require more consistent supervision.

On site will be desert wildflower-lined walkways that lead to the neighbors' homes for visits as well as the community businesses. These businesses are part of the facility and provide continuity in daily activities in which the residents have always engaged: grabbing a coffee and danish while reading the morning paper, meeting a friend for a matinee movie, or heading over to the salon for a haircut or manicure.

This village lifestyle is designed to give our residents a greater quality of life, within the safety of the campus, as they navigate this new phase.

All staff in the community will be specially trained and certified in dementia care, including the cooks and groundskeeper, enabling them to tailor their interactions for the maximum benefit of the residents. The founder/owner will also live within walking distance to ensure the highest level of care is delivered at all times.

Meet LeAnn Larson, RN, Founder of Prosper in Peace

As a nurse for 25 years, quality care has been my passion. I know from experience what matters at this phase in life and how meeting those needs can truly affect one's quality of life. When we know better, we do better. I've been around long enough to identify the aspects of memory care that need to evolve, so I’m creating the change I wish to see and would want for my family or myself.

Our loved ones deserve a place that feels like home, retains their dignity, and enhances their continued health and vitality throughout this chapter of their lives, fully supporting their transitions in new ways to exist in the world.

Working in this field, I've seen the type of care some of our people with dementia receive in standard memory care homes and facilities. I believe we can do better by offering a more stimulating and engaging environment that meets all of their needs.

At Prosper in Peace, our goal is exactly that— create a peaceful, safe environment where folks with dementia can live to their highest potential. Too many of our elders spend their final years locked in the house, sitting on a couch watching TV; the boredom can lead to wandering and other aggressive acting out behaviors.

The mission of Prosper in Peace is to provide dignified care to our elders with dementia in an environment that fosters their quality of life and offers them the opportunity to truly prosper in peace to the best of their ability as they progress through their disease. We offer purpose through meaningful work tasks, engaging fun activities, and friendships in a friendly, village-like atmosphere where anything the residents need or want is available and accessible for them.

I had the opportunity to meet LeAnn at The Hogeweyk, the world's first community for people with dementia. I was touched by the enthusiasm and drive to create an environment for people living with dementia. I wish her every success in realizing her plans and changing the way to provide this vital care.

PiP Values

Purpose ☀︎ Our primary goal is for our residents to fulfill their highest possible levels of functioning and continue to feel the importance of their contributions in our world.

Respect ☀︎ We understand the value everyone and everything around us adds to our community and treat each other, our residents, and our facility with consideration and regard for the greater good.

Original Approach ☀︎ We offer a true village community where residents can take a walk over to the library, grab an ice cream cone, or visit a friend for tea. They have freedom to move around as they please within our dementia-friendly environment.

Safety and Security ☀︎ Our community is a safe place for our residents to live to their level of comfort. Their loved ones are secure knowing that we have taken care of every detail for their well-being.

Passion for Excellence ☀︎ Our staff are all dementia-care certified, which allows all decisions we make to be based on what is best for the resident and how we can make their lives more enjoyable.

Ethical ☀︎ We believe in integrity and always doing what is right, even- and especially- when no one is looking.

Responsibility ☀︎ No person is an island; we each recognize that our actions and decisions affect those around us. We take ownership for all our actions and strive to always make the decision that benefits the majority of our residents.

 The Property

The Prosper in Peace campus can be found in the serene Sonoran Desert town of Marana, Arizona, located just north of Tucson, making it readily available to Phoenicians as well.

The site is easily accessed from the I-10 freeway, but far enough away to avoid the traffic noise and enjoy the pleasant melodies of the birds singing and the serene quiet. The Tucson area is a popular destination for retirement because of its climate, peaceful environment, easygoing energy, and stunning scenery.

The Plans

The Village

The concept of a village is provided to most closely simulate a normal living environment and is the trait that sets us apart from other memory care models. People have their home that they live in, and then engage in their normal daily activities. It is the same for the residents at PiP; they have a home they live in, neighbors to visit and businesses to frequent for their pleasure and basic needs. The Village will be walled in and each resident's location monitored via a smart watch tracking device so staff can supervise their activity and intervene if needed.

The Village Plans

Oftentimes, folks living with dementia will act out when their physical or psychological needs are not met. Boredom and frustration are common reasons for aggressive behavior in this population, and understandably so. We have designed PiP with this in mind. Residents will be able to participate in normal day-to-day life such as going out for coffee with a friend or enjoying popcorn and a soda at the movies. There will be tree covered, wild flower lined walking paths and even a bus stop for those who feel a need to take a trip! Outside of the property are flat, easy hiking paths with gorgeous views of the surrounding desert for families to enjoy together during visits.

The Rooms

The people who live here will be able to develop a familiarity with the environment and property that will ease with the transition as their disease progresses. Residents can start off in more independent style duplexes and move into a centrally located large home when their care needs dictate more frequent staff interventions.

The Duplexes

Residents of the duplexes will enjoy a home that includes separate sleeping and living areas, a private bathroom and a kitchenette with a microwave and refrigerator to prepare their own food as desired.

The Main Building

As more care is needed, the resident will move into the main home, still enjoying the solitude of a private sleeping area and bathroom, but also able to receive constant supervision and oversight. Each of the bedrooms in the main house will have a window that opens to a specifically designated patio.

Should public health safety measures need to be reinstituted, families will still have access to at least get a glimpse of their loved ones, while keeping all residents safe.
