Walking for a Cause

As mentioned previously, I have started volunteering on the Walk to End Alzheimer's Planning Committee. This group has been a joy to get to know as there are many wonderful people who care about those with Alzheimer's and other dementias. This week was filled with activities related to this event so I thought it would be good to highlight the activity in this post.

The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® event is held in over 600 communities annually and is the world's largest Alzheimer's care, support, and research fundraiser. This year the Tucson area walk will be held on October 22, 20022 at Reid Park.

Walkers may choose a 1-mile or 3-mile route that goes around the park. Additional activities include a pet area, a kid's tent (I am leading this activity), and a caregiver support tent. There will be refreshments for all and prizes for the participants depending on their fundraising level.

Promise Garden Flowers

Each year a special feature includes the Promise Garden - a hands-on, mission-focused activity that allows participants to raise flowers representing their promise to remember, honor, care, and fight for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers. The garden is an absolutely gorgeous tribute with each Flower color carrying a significant meaning.

Description of each of the promise garden flower colors: Blue - those who have Alzheimer's; Yellow - those who support Alzheimer's; Orange - supports the Alzheimer's cause and vision; and purple for those who have lost someone to Alzheimer's.

Promise Garden Flower Color Meanings

You can find out more about the event in Tucson, or other locations at the Tucson Walk To End Alzheimer's website and even sign up to be a captain of your own team. If you would like to participate on the Prosper in Peace team or make a donation to our team, please use this special Prosper in Peace team link.

I'd love to see you all at Reid Park on October 22 @ 8:00 am to participate in this fun. Physical activity is an excellent way to keep our brain sharp!
