Cream of the Crop

The 'cream of the crop' refers to the best of the best, and that is who we will hire at Prosper in Peace. Caregivers who are conscientious and nurturing will be our standard of employees.

What is the most effective way to ensure you hire the best staff? Train them yourself. This week I started a job with a local company training CNA and Caregiver staff, the exact people we will hire.

It is exciting to be engaged with individuals who want to grow and learn. When people understand how their actions make a difference, they want to do well. I am fortunate to be involved in their early education and look forward to finding a few gems we can hire to provide our holistic dementia care.

"Train people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so that they don't want to." ~ Richard Branson

In addition to starting the new role, I continued with my tasks to plan our mindful memory care. This week that included another builder meet-and-greet. They have agreed to provide an estimate so I have now two outstanding. Once all are received, I will average them to come up with my final number to share with the funding sources.

Speaking of funding options, I met with two SCORE mentors that have been involved with successful investing opportunities. They offered some helpful suggestions I had not considered and validated some of my previous assumptions. It was time well spent.

"For me, I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you." ~ Neil deGrasse Tyson

I attended a very informative session on the use of clinical cannabis in the elderly and as a treatment for those with dementia. Studies have shown it to be effective for agitation from Alzheimer’s Disease and may even have effects on the plaque-forming proteins seen in Alzheimer's.

Additionally, cannabis is used to help increase the appetite of those who do not consume enough calories, provides relief for muscle spasms in those with Parkinson's, and calms anxiety promoting more restful sleep patterns. We now have a policy that will allow medical marijuana at Prosper in Peace for those with a doctor's prescription. Here is a video that highlights one success story: Grassp Health: Roger's Story

I also attended an information session on mold avoidance with a friend who is suffering from CIRS, which is Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome, also known as mold illness. She shared some helpful considerations to keep in mind when building new construction; important to think about for those who would be especially vulnerable.

The weather is starting to cool down so it's time to get outside and enjoy the days again.  Corn Mazes are a great way to get physical activity and challenge your mind - they are all the rage this month so book yourself a date to help keep your brain sharp!
